The project, spearheaded by MacGowan’s widow, Victoria Mary Clarke, and Rubyworks, features contributions from a diverse range of artists, including Bruce Springsteen, Kate Moss, Johnny Depp, and Tom Waits.

Bruce Springsteen’s cover of “A Rainy Night in Soho” serves as the lead single from the album. Accompanying the release, Springsteen penned a lengthy statement reflecting on MacGowan’s artistic impact. He placed MacGowan among musical giants like Woody Guthrie, Little Richard, Miles Davis, and Bob Dylan, recognizing his unique ability to connect with history through his music. Spin reports Springsteen described MacGowan as possessing “naked, bottomless humanity,” and a voice that was “deeply real, profane and honest.”

The Guardian confirms additional artists are expected to be announced.
Supporting a Worthy Cause
Fifty percent of the artist royalties from 20th Century Paddy – The Songs of Shane MacGowan will be donated to Dublin Simon Community, an organization dedicated to providing housing and healthcare for individuals experiencing homelessness. Clarke expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support, stating that the album is a testament to MacGowan’s enduring spirit and songwriting.
Shane MacGowan’s Legacy
Born on Christmas Day in 1957, Shane MacGowan co-founded The Pogues, a band renowned for its fusion of Irish roots music and punk rock. The Pogues achieved success with hits such as “Fairytale of New York” and “A Rainy Night in Soho.” Following his departure from the band in 1991, MacGowan continued to create music with The Popes and through solo projects, collaborating with artists like Nick Cave, Johnny Depp, and Sinéad O’Connor.
