Shein Recalls Children’s Costumes Due to Choking and Injury Hazards
An urgent alert has been issued to parents across Ireland regarding the recall of two children’s costumes sold on the Shein marketplace, due to potential choking and injury risks. The recalls, announced by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), involve an Egyptian Princess Costume and a Black Curly Cat Plush Toy.
Egyptian Princess Costume Recall
The Egyptian Princess Costume, sold by third-party seller Yiwu Zhuili Electronic Commerce on Shein, presents hazards due to small parts that can detach and pose a choking risk to young children. The costume features long cords at the arms and waist that could become caught during play or everyday activities, potentially leading to injury.
The product is identified by the brand HSG1193 and product identifier sl25021886285483462. Approximately 12 affected products were sold in the Republic of Ireland. CCPC Notice
Consumers who purchased this costume are advised to stop using it immediately, discard it, and keep it out of reach of children. Shein can be contacted for a refund or to raise concerns at eurcsteam@shein.com.
Black Curly Cat Plush Toy Recall
Separately, the Black Curly Cat Plush Toy, sold by third-party trader Shantou Baida Chuang Trading Co., Ltd. On the Shein Marketplace, is too being recalled. This recall is due to the risk of choking from small parts and the potential for a child to access the toy’s stuffing through a seam in the back.
Approximately 38 affected items were sold in the Republic of Ireland. Parents are urged to stop using the toy immediately, keep it out of reach of children, and discard it. Shein can be contacted for a refund.
Safety Recommendations
The CCPC advises consumers to prioritize the safety of children by promptly removing these recalled products from their reach. Regularly checking for product recalls and safety alerts is also recommended.
