Sindh Province Surpasses Rs300 Billion Revenue Milestone

Karachi, Pakistan – The Sindh province has achieved a significant economic milestone, exceeding Rs300 billion in revenue collection. This achievement, announced Thursday by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, marks a major step forward for the province’s financial stability and development.

Revenue Growth and Key Initiatives

During a meeting with the Sindh Revenue Board (SRB), Chief Minister Shah was briefed on the increase in tax income and recoveries. The SRB has been actively working to strengthen enforcement through the establishment of an intelligence, investigation, and prosecution wing, as well as a dedicated enforcement unit to combat tax fraud and the use of fake invoices .

Key improvements to the tax system include strengthened audit processes, a digital dashboard, and enhanced e-filing platforms. Notably, an e-filing system has too been introduced for agriculture tax.

Government Priorities and Reforms

Chief Minister Shah emphasized the government’s commitment to facilitating taxpayers, expanding the tax net, and ensuring transparency in the tax system. A core priority is to enhance tax revenues without increasing the burden on taxpayers .

Alongside revenue improvements, the Sindh Cabinet recently approved a sweeping austerity and fuel conservation plan to address economic pressures. This plan includes a 50% reduction in fuel allocations for official vehicles (excluding essential services) and grounding 60% of the government fleet for two months .

Further austerity measures include voluntary salary waivers for ministers, advisors, and special assistants, as well as proposed cuts for provincial legislators and senior officials. A 20% reduction in non-essential government expenditure is also planned for the final quarter of the fiscal year .

Recent Cabinet Decisions

In addition to the austerity plan, the Sindh Cabinet has also focused on infrastructure development, approving Rs 964.407 million for acquiring buses to improve public transportation . However, concerns were raised regarding the slow pace of work on the Karachi development package .

The achievement of crossing the Rs300 billion revenue mark is viewed as a testament to improved governance, transparency, and institutional reforms within the Sindh province.
