Singapore Airlines Flight Diverted to Taipei After Cracked Windshield
Singapore Airlines (SIA) Flight SQ636, en route to Tokyo from Singapore’s Changi Airport, was forced to make an unexpected landing in Taipei on Monday morning due to a cracked windshield. The incident took place mid-flight, prompting the airline to prioritize the safety of the 249 passengers and 17 crew members onboard.
Details of the Diverted Flight
The Boeing 777-300ER took off from Singapore at 11:07 PM on Sunday, scheduled to arrive at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport at 6:20 AM on Monday. However, the discovery of the cracked windshield necessitated a diversion to Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei, where the aircraft landed safely at around 4:00 AM.
Passengers Resettled and Delayed Departure
“The plane landed uneventfully,” confirmed an SIA spokesperson. “Hotel accommodation was arranged for all affected customers, and the flight has been renumbered to SQ9876. It is scheduled to depart Taipei for Tokyo at 8:30 PM, arriving at Haneda Airport at 12:30 AM on Tuesday.”
SIA Expresses Apologies for the Inconvenience
The airline deeply regrets the disruption caused by this unexpected event. “SIA sincerely apologizes to all affected customers for the inconvenience caused,” emphasized the spokesperson. “The safety of our customers and crew is our top priority.”
