Singapore Taxi Driver Jailed for Molesting Passenger on Expressway
A taxi driver in Singapore has been sentenced to 10 days in jail for molesting an 18-year-aged passenger while driving on an expressway. The incident occurred on December 1, 2024, during a ride booked through the Tada ride-hailing application.
Details of the Offense
Leong Wing Fatt, a 63-year-old Singaporean, initially allowed the passenger to sit in the back seat of his vehicle. He then suggested she move to the front passenger seat, claiming it would be easier for conversation. While driving on the expressway, Leong held the victim’s hand and placed it on her upper thigh without her consent.
Captured on Video Call
Unbeknownst to Leong, the victim was on a video call with a friend at the time of the assault. The friend captured the molestation on video, providing crucial evidence for the prosecution.
Court Ruling and Sentencing
Leong pleaded guilty to one count of molestation and was sentenced to 10 days in jail on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, by District Judge Paul Quan. The judge emphasized the severity of the offense, describing it as a “gross intrusion of privacy.” He also stated that passengers on public transport have the right to travel in complete safety without fear of being taken advantage of by transport workers.

For molestation, Leong could have faced a maximum of two years in jail and a fine. Yet, he was not subject to caning as he is over the age of 50.
