faulty GPS in Škoda Kodiaq Causes Driver Assistance System Errors
Many drivers have grown accustomed to automation in cars. Adaptive cruise control, lane monitoring systems, and parking assistance can simplify driving – provided the systems function correctly. Malfunctioning driver services, however, can confuse drivers and compromise safety.
A Škoda Kodiaq driver experienced this firsthand. The driver, who wishes to remain anonymous, leased the vehicle through a company’s operational leasing program for work purposes in June 2023.
In recent months, the car began exhibiting GPS inaccuracies, misreporting its location. This issue notably surfaced when the driver engaged the car’s assistance systems.
“Sometimes in the summer, the car started behaving strangely. While driving on poděbradská street in Prague, for example, it indicated I was on Českobrodská,” the driver told SZ Byznys.
This confusion within the car’s infotainment system poses a meaningful risk when using driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control, which adjusts vehicle speed based on surrounding traffic. On the highway, the system incorrectly identified a village and automatically reduced the speed from 130 km/h to 50 km/h.
“Or you drive in a tunnel in prague at 50 km/h, and the car evaluates that it can go up to 80 km/h, so it accelerates to 80,” the driver described.
Have the car serviced, the dealer advises
According to Jiří Jandl, director of Škoda and Volkswagen outlets at the TUkas dealer group, several factors coudl contribute to this issue.
