Over 1,400 professionals involved, a membership of 83% and a level of satisfaction reaching 95%. These are the numbers that tell the story of “Key Skills – The future together: values in action”, the training program on transversal skills promoted by the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico and just concluded in Rome.
The project, developed during 2025 in collaboration with Coreconsulting, involved 1,454 employees – doctors, nurses, technicians and administrative staff – with the aim of strengthening those soft skills that are increasingly central to healthcare work: from communication to teamwork, from problem solving skills to change management.
A transversal and flexible path

The training program was divided into 28 hours in total, divided between in-person activities and online modules. A structure designed to allow maximum participation without compromising continuity of care, thanks to sessions distributed over multiple time slots and programming extended throughout the entire year.
The transversal approach has favored the comparison between different professionals, creating a shared learning environment consistent with the organizational model of the Polyclinic, which has always been founded on the principle of the “person at the centre”, both in the care of patients and in the growth of its collaborators.
Communication, team working and change management
Among the topics addressed in the training course are the analysis of problems and the search for effective solutions, communication between colleagues and with patients, teamwork and building positive relationships. Ample space was also dedicated to planning activities and managing change, increasingly crucial skills in a healthcare context characterized by complex processes and rapid evolution.
Tosti: “A common language and culture”
“The Key Skills project represents an important stage in the growth path of our community”, commented the president of the Foundation, Carlo Tosti. “The mission of the Campus Bio-Medico Polyclinic, summarized by the formula ‘Science for Man’, is achieved not only through specialist knowledge, but also in the way we work as a team and face everyday challenges”.
According to Tosti, the initiative contributes to “consolidating a common language and culture” and improving the overall experience of those who rely on the care of the Polyclinic.
Sormani: “Growth of people and humanization of care”
“In healthcare, the quality of care increasingly depends on the ability to integrate technical skills and soft skills”, underlined the CEO and general manager Paolo Sormani. “Our work is made up of complex processes, interactions between different professionals and shared responsibilities. This is where Key Skills was born: a project designed to strengthen the organization through the growth of people and support the humanisation of care”.
Sormani thanked the employees for their broad participation, defining the results as “a concrete basis for continuing to progress, for the benefit of the working environment and patients”.
Vecchio: “A model that generates engagement”
The director of Human Resources, Salvatore Vecchiohighlighted the organizational structure of the project: “Key Skills was designed as a transversal training course, capable of adapting to the needs of the Polyclinic. The blended modality and attention to flexibility favored broad and aware participation”.
The levels of membership and satisfaction, he added, “confirm the effectiveness of a model that puts people at the center and generates engagement, cooperation and the development of new skills in daily practice”.
Assessment and final evaluation
The process started with a preliminary assessment to identify training needs and will end with a final test, designed to measure the progress achieved and guide future staff development and training actions.
