New Bedford High School Wins Big 3 Conference Boys Swimming Championship
New Bedford High School emerged victorious at the Big 3 Conference boys swimming championship, marking a successful season for SouthCoast swimmers. The win highlights the growing strength of aquatic programs in the region, with Bishop Stang likewise claiming the Catholic Central League title.
Conference Performance and Individual Achievements
Rafael Conde of New Bedford High School had a standout performance, winning both the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle events at the Big 3 meet. He also achieved notable results at the state level, placing 30th in the 100 freestyle (51.32) at the Div. 1 state championship and 13th in the 100 freestyle (50.95) at sectionals. Conde also contributed to the 200 medley relay team, which finished 20th at sectionals with a time of 1:50.32.
Other Notable Swimmers
Jacob Iappini of Traditional Rochester High School also demonstrated exceptional talent, achieving top 20 finishes at the Div. 2 state championship. He finished 11th in the 50 freestyle (22.64) and 19th in the 100 freestyle (51.19). Iappini also set a school record and a Durfee poll record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.64.

Beyond swimming, the Big 3 Conference has seen recent action in other sports:
- Baseball: Middleboro defeated Durfee 1-0, while Durfee beat North Quincy 12-11.
- Softball: Diman defeated Durfee 17-3 and New Bedford beat Sandwich 8-2.
- Boys Volleyball: Brockton defeated Silver Lake 3-1, Durfee defeated Hingham 3-0, and New Bedford defeated Scituate 3-1.
- Boys Lacrosse: Somerset-Berkley defeated New Bedford 18-5.
