Car Thing Shut Down: Users Find Devices Non-Operational

Earlier today, users started reporting that their Car Things were no longer functioning, displaying a message stating “no longer operational,” along with a reminder regarding refund terms valid until January 14, 2025.

Car Thing: Aiming for Improved Music Control

Launched in February 2022, Spotify’s Car Thing aimed to enhance music control in cars lacking built-in infotainment systems. However, despite initial optimism, low demand and supply chain challenges led to its discontinuation less than a year after launch.

Refunds Available for Users

The swift shutdown sparked considerable backlash from users who felt entitled to a refund for the $90 price tag. Spotify has responded by giving customers until January 14, 2025, to contact customer service and request a refund, providing proof of purchase.

User Instructions for Discontinued Devices

Spotify also advises users with Car Things to reset their devices to factory settings and dispose of them responsibly according to their local electronic waste guidelines.

While the dream of a dedicated Spotify Car Thing experience is over, Spotify continues to offer robust music streaming capabilities through various other platforms and integrations within vehicles.
