Bipartisan Bill secures $280 Million for Bone marrow and Cord Blood Transplants
U.S. representatives have introduced legislation to reauthorize two national programs providing life-saving treatments for leukemia, lymphoma, and sickle cell anemia.
The Stem Cell Therapeutic and Research reauthorization Act of 2025 (H.R. 5160) aims to secure over $280 million in funding over the next five years,preventing program expiration in Fiscal Year 2026.
Representatives Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Chris Smith (R-NJ), and Doris Matsui (D-CA) lead the effort to ensure the continuation of the C.W. Bill Young Cell transplantation Program and the National Cord Blood Inventory – both collaborative, federally funded initiatives.

Funding and Impact
The legislation proposes to reauthorize:
- $33 million annually for five years for the C.W. bill young Cell Transplantation Program.
- $23 million annually for five years for the National Cord Blood Inventory.
These programs have facilitated tens of thousands of life-saving transplants.
