The Sudanese Army announced on Monday that it will hand over thirty child soldiers who are in his custody and that they were recruited by the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (FAR) to participate in the conflict that broke out in the African country in mid-April.

“In accordance with international humanitarian law and the laws of war, the Sudanese Armed Forces contacted the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to hand over thirty underage members of the rebel militia,” the Army said in a statement.

According to the note, these minors were captured by the Army during the clashes that have taken place throughout Sudan since the rebellion of the FAR against the Armed Forces broke out on April 15.

The statement did not specify to whom these minors will be delivered, but indicated that the operation will be carried out andin the town of Um Durmanadjacent to Khartoum, once the military receives “a response from the representatives” of the ICRC in Sudan, with whom they contacted on August 28, according to the letter.

On the other hand, the Army also plans to hand over 200 FAR combatants, according to the note, which indicated that it is waiting for “the necessary procedures to be completed” with the ICRC.
