White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles Diagnosed with Breast Cancer

Susie Wiles, President Donald Trump’s White House chief of staff, announced Monday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Wiles, 68, confirmed the diagnosis in a statement, noting it was detected early and she is encouraged by a strong prognosis. She intends to continue serving in her role during treatment.

Continued Service Despite Diagnosis

“This past week, I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” Wiles stated. “Nearly one in eight women in the United States will face this diagnosis. Every day, these women continue to raise their families, head to work, and serve their communities with strength and determination. I now join their ranks.”

President Trump publicly announced Wiles’ diagnosis via a post on Truth Social, expressing his support and confidence in her ability to continue her duties. “She has a fantastic medical team, and her prognosis is excellent!” he wrote. He added that Wiles will be spending “virtually full time at the White House” during treatment, a fact he reiterated at a Kennedy Center board meeting later that day.

At the Kennedy Center event, Trump described the situation as a “minor difficulty” and predicted Wiles would “be around for a long time.” He similarly mentioned she had “just started” treatment.

Support from the Administration

Numerous members of the administration and lawmakers have voiced their support for Wiles following the announcement. Vice President JD Vance posted on X, stating his family is “praying for our dear friend as she takes on her next fight!”

White House deputy chief of staff James Blair praised Wiles on X, saying she “will win this battle with grace.” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt described Wiles as “a strong leader” and “one of the nicest people” she has ever met.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., also shared his family’s prayers for Wiles’ “quick and complete recovery.”

Wiles’ Role in the Trump Administration

Wiles has served as Trump’s chief of staff since the beginning of his second term. She also played a key role as the president’s co-campaign manager for his 2024 campaign. She is known for her influence within the administration and her close working relationship with the President, though she generally avoids public speaking engagements and on-the-record interviews.

Breast Cancer Statistics

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the U.S., excluding skin cancer. The risk of developing breast cancer increases with age, although rates have been rising among younger women. When diagnosed and treated early, before spreading, the five-year survival rate is approximately 90%.
