A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged with firearms and driving offences following an incident in Tauranga on Thursday morning. Teh arrest followed a shooting at a Bethlehem address, a police pursuit, and an armed standoff in central Tauranga.

Superintendent Tim Anderson of the Bay of Plenty District Police stated that the pursuit was terminated due to the suspect’s hazardous driving. Rather of continuing the chase, police utilized CCTV footage to monitor the vehicle and strategically deployed road spikes on The Strand in central Tauranga.
Armed Standoff and arrest
Upon being spiked,the suspect exited the vehicle while still armed with a firearm and refused to comply with police requests to drop the weapon.
