BC Rugby Teams Compete at the 2025 Canada Summer Games

The 2025 Canada Summer Games begin in St. John’s this weekend, with rugby 7s
competition taking place from August 11-13 at Swilers Rugby Club. Here’s how
you can follow all the action.

Team BC Ready for Competition

The BC Bears U18 Girls 7s and U20 Boys 7s squads are prepared to compete.
Victoria and BC Rugby’s Joshua McIndoe has been named as flagbearer for Team
BC at Saturday’s Opening Ceremonies.

“It’s an absolute honor,” said McIndoe. “To not only represent my province
on the rugby stage,but also to be recognized as our flag bearer is an
absolute honour.”

McIndoe is a proven leader, having captained BC Rugby’s U16 and U18 teams,
as well as the Canadian U20 National Team during their recent tour to Fiji.
he also contributes to his community by coaching youth players and
volunteering at a local shelter.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be taught by great leaders and I’m definitely
still learning myself,” added McIndoe.

Return of Rugby 7s to the Canada Games

Girls Rugby 7s returns to the games for the first time as 2022 in
Niagara, where Team BC won the Gold Medal. The Boys Rugby 7s competition
has been reinstated for the first time since 2009.

The tournament format consists of 11 teams split into Pool A (5 teams) and
Pool B (6 teams) on each side. Teams will play four round-robin matches
before advancing to the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals.

Competition Draw

In the Boys competition, BC is in Pool B with Nova Scotia, Prince Edward
Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, Yukon Territories, and Quebec City. For
the Girls event,BC is in Pool A and will face Nova Scotia,Alberta,New
Brunswick,and Newfoundland and Labrador.
