Telefónica has sealed an alliance with Starlink, satellite connectivity company Elon Muskto distribute its solutions for companies in Latin America and, later, in Spain, as an “authorized global partner”.

The Spanish operator has begun to distribute this service as part of its offer in Mexico and, throughout the year, it will extend it to Peru, Colombia, Chile, Brazil y spain.

Starlink it offers coverage through nanosatellites located in low orbit, that is, closer to Earth than traditional geostationary satellites, which facilitates the reception of the signal and allows it to offer higher download speeds. Thus, Telefónica points out that with the service it offers, between 300 and 350 Mbps could be achieved if a dedicated terminal is used.

The lower latency of this type of service also enables use cases that were not possible with previous satellite alternatives, according to Telefónica. “The satellite industry is undergoing an unprecedented revolution. Satellite allows connectivity projects to be executed very quickly and efficiently. In Telefónica Global Solutions We have been offering value-added satellite solutions for many years and, with this alliance, we began to work hand in hand with Starlink Empresas to offer new generation solutions to our customers”, says the CEO of Telefónica Global Solutions, Julio Beamonte.

The progress of satellite connectivity has consolidated this route as an alternative to other types of more expensive deployments in rural and remote areas. For this reason, telecommunications operators are weaving alliances with companies in the sector to strengthen their offer.
