Thanh Xuan Ward Embraces Fitness and Community Through Olympic Run and Sports Clubs
On March 22, 2026, the Thanh Xuan Ward of Hanoi, Vietnam, hosted a Public Health Olympic Run and launched a new initiative to establish sports clubs in residential areas. The event, organized by the Thanh Xuan Ward People’s Committee, celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Sports and Physical Education (March 27, 1946 – March 27, 2026) and aimed to promote health, well-being, and community spirit.
Promoting a Culture of Fitness
The Olympic Run for Public Health attracted nearly 1,000 athletes of various ages, creating a vibrant atmosphere and raising awareness about the importance of physical fitness. Vice Chairman of the Thanh Xuan Ward People’s Committee, Vuong Thi Van Khanh, emphasized the event’s role in improving public health and fostering a united, civilized, and modern community. The initiative builds upon recent efforts to encourage all citizens to engage in physical training, following the example of President Ho Chi Minh.
Expanding Access to Sports
A key component of the event was the launch of sports clubs in residential areas. Vice Chairman Vuong Thi Van Khanh highlighted that establishing these clubs is a crucial step towards sustainably promoting popular sports. These clubs are intended to provide a healthy environment for residents with shared interests, facilitating social interaction, health improvement, and stronger community bonds.
A Day of Competition and Celebration
Following the opening ceremony and the 1,000-meter run, participants competed in five sports: badminton, table tennis, chess, pickleball, and tug of war. A martial arts demonstration added to the festive atmosphere. The event served as a true sports festival for the district, spreading the spirit of physical fitness throughout the community.
Future Initiatives
The Thanh Xuan Ward People’s Committee plans to continue organizing meaningful activities to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of Vietnamese Sports and Physical Education. These include a student sports competition for the 2025-2026 school year and a gathering to honor generations of officials, coaches, athletes, and referees who have contributed to the region’s sports and physical education sector. The district hopes to further promote physical activity, uphold the traditions of the sports sector, and encourage active participation in training to build a healthy and culturally vibrant community.
