The Government has raised, in the same week in which the elections are held, up to 0.26 euros per kilometer the allowance that officials will charge for the use of their own vehicle to work.

The amount to be paid was frozen at 0.19 euros per kilometer since 2005, and its upward revision was a demand from the unions. The Government, as EL MUNDO already reported, had been working on this increase for months. In fact, the authorization for its review was included in the package of anti-inflation measures that was already approved at the end of last year. But it was not until this Monday when it was published in the Official State Gazette and that 35% increase has been confirmed.

“The €0.26 per kilometer will be paid after presenting the corresponding fuel bill and a statement justifying the displacement. Subsequently, and after checking the documentation, a deposit will be made in their current account,” reports the Ministry of Finance and Public Function.

In parallel, the BOE includes a second ministerial order that also reviews the exemption to which the private sector workersand that also goes from 0.19 euros per kilometer to 0.26 euros.

“For the group of workers who pay personal income tax who use the vehicle to work, the exemptions will be applied allowing the exclusion of the amount from the tax declaration resulting from multiplying 0.26 euros by the kilometers traveled. A procedure for which it will be necessary to have a document that justifies the displacement, and in which the toll and parking costs that have been necessary may be included”, reports the Public Function.
