Janda: I always try to do that. But let the effort be the greatest, I always slip together, to my traditional manuscript. I guess I’ll not get out of it anymore.

There are songs on the Bombarďák album, where I tried to change really consciously. They are a dwarf, spring or has. But when I listen, I still hear myself in them.

What are they about?

Paradoxically, the dwarf is that I don’t want any change anymore. Spring is about the cycle of four seasons in our country. I like it, but at the same time it is a symbol for me the approaching end of my life.

The song was my created when I remembered my first girl. I was fourteen, she was three years older.

She was quite advanced and showed me that I could try it with her. We made love in the forest on the moss as sung in the song. But in her conclusion, I confide that I never looked for it again. I didn’t want her. It’s an authentic experience.

Are all the love of your life in your songs?

Janda: There are a lot of them. What else should I sing about? I can’t think of events, so what I have experienced. On the new album are about four songs that have a deep personal foundation.

Not only you and other authors wrote the lyrics. How did you deal with them?

Janda: I entered them. And then I knocked with horror from what the lyrics were about. When the lyricist does not hit me, so to speak, he will destroy the song. I usually write music first and in the harmony of the nascent song I usually feel what it should be about.

For example, before it gets dark, a simple song is that the boy breaks down with a girl and decided to tell her in the dark to see her tears. I returned the text to three authors eight times. Then I took the text of Lukáš Koranda, who was best hit in my assignment.

Did you get angry with a lyricist?

Janda: I’m not a diplomat, I say things. But all my lyricists are still friends with me.

Your teammates have already manifested themselves as composers, whether in Olympics or outside. Why are you the author of music on the new album?

Janda: I have no problem with the songs of other authors on the album. After all, the boys brought ideas. But when I looked at them as a producer of the album, I didn’t.

Yet I feel that the boys should show up more. If we are uploading another record, I will ask them to write something, and see if we use some of their songs.

Broum: It’s not easy for me. The feeling that I compose a song for Petr Janda almost paralyzes me. I’m more playing. In the songs I think of bass lines, sometimes I add a small arrangement idea, but I do not dare to authorship.

In the past, I wrote some instrumentals for Olympic, but I don’t want to do more. There is no time for it, I’m judgmental.

Vajgl: Behind our new album is, among other things, Peter’s immense desire to compose. I am sure that to be happy, he needs to write new songs.

Janda: You wouldn’t compose songs for me, but for yourself. I can imagine that you would sing them.

Janda: Of course. I have written a lot of songs in my life. I do not need to have twelve on every new album and sing in all.

Broum: That’s right. For example, I sang a dangerous figure. I had a personal relationship with her. It was from 1966 was the first I had heard from Olympics.

When I studied at the conservatory, I sang it during some test. That’s why I later took her concerts. But I take it more like a rarity.

Janda: When Olympic started, we sang Klein, Pacák, Chrastina and me. Not everyone wrote songs for themselves, we just agreed who would sing, and that happened. Then he came to the band Hejduk and took a lot of songs.

I mean, there has always been no one in Olympics, that he only sings one. But since some time it is up to me. I don’t even know how it happened. I do not want it, and moreover, the album would benefit a greater voice variety.

Březina: Peter is not a dictator. The rest of us do not sing solo, but before the songs are ready, we are discussing them democratically. We change the form, pace, we argue about the details. We’re a band in this. We want the result to be the best for all.

Pavel, you are the youngest in the band. Did she surprise you with something?

Březina: I was intrigued that Peter’s song usually ends with a stanza. This is the case with the biggest hits. From my past bands and as an author who has more pop feeling, I was used to closing them with refrains.

So it was a new one for me, and now I am learning to find something beneficial for myself and for myself. When I compose for myself today, I don’t think so commercially. Some songs therefore also end with a stanza.

Peter, do you have other authorial principles?

Janda: My songs not only end in a stanza, but singing in them at the end. I remember that Karel Gott asked me for the song. I wrote it as I was used to, so singing at the end dropped down. But he told me he wanted it the other way around. He wanted to climb in the finals in the finals. I could never write it that way.

You know, when I started, I forbade certain procedures. For example, so -called wheels, ie four chords that appear in pop music over and over again. Some authors use them not only in the stanza, but also in the refrain in the same order. It works for people, but it’s annoying to me.

I also forbade modulation. This means that when the singer does not know what to do next, he begins to sing the same passage by half a tone or a tone higher. That’s also disgusting to me.

Likewise, I forbade the so -called twelve, the style of the game typical of blues. Already in the sixties I was supersaturated, I did not enjoy and I did not want my songs to be similar.
