Shaping L.A.’s Future: Metro Seeks Community Input on Eastside Transit Expansion
Angelenos will soon have a chance to shape the future of transportation in the Eastside as the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) launches a series of public meetings for its ambitious Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 project. This transformative expansion aims to extend the existing E Line light rail northward, bringing reliable and efficient transit options to communities in Montebello and Whittier.
Metro recognizes the importance of community involvement in this project, which promises to significantly impact traffic flow, accessibility, and the overall quality of life for residents. The first step in this collaborative process is a series of public meetings designed to gather feedback on proposed plans and address community concerns.
These meetings, kicking off on January 28th, will be held in various locations across the affected communities, including the East L.A. Library, the Commerce Senior Center, and the Chet Holifield Park Community Center in Montebello. A virtual meeting option via Zoom will be available for those who cannot attend in person.
"This project has the potential to transform communities by providing a reliable and sustainable alternative to single-occupancy vehicles," said a Metro spokesperson. "We encourage everyone with an interest in the future of the Eastside to attend these meetings and make their voices heard.”
The meetings coincide with Metro’s upcoming telephone town hall on February 4th, which will focus on the agency’s 2025-2026 budget. While past budget meetings have been criticized for lacking adequate public input, Metro is committed to ensuring that residents’ priorities are considered in the upcoming fiscal year.
Public attention is also being drawn to ongoing service alerts related to the C (Green) Line overhead wire rehabilitation project. Riders should be prepared for potential delays and temporary bus bridges between stations as Metro works to improve the reliability and efficiency of this vital transit corridor.
Further details about the Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 project, including meeting agendas and locations, can be found on Metro’s website and The Source blog.
Metro urges residents to actively participate in this crucial planning process, emphasizing that their input will directly shape the future of transit in the Eastside.
