Sarri Focuses on Torino Clash, Dismisses Atalanta Distraction

Maurizio Sarri, the Lazio manager, emphasized the importance of focusing solely on the upcoming Serie A match against Torino, dismissing any thoughts of the upcoming Coppa Italia semi-final against Atalanta as “folly.” Sarri made these remarks in the pre-match press conference ahead of Lazio’s away game at the Stadio Olimpico in Torino on March 1, 2026.

Sarri’s Pre-Match Comments

“If we run the risk of thinking about the Coppa Italia, we are crazy,” Sarri stated to SkySport, as reported by OneFootball. “We must think about this match; a second thought would be damaging. The game today is tricky, the opponents will be motivated, and we must be able to react.”

Sarri also acknowledged the challenges his team has faced in attack, noting that while they had seemingly overcome previous issues, they have resurfaced, particularly in the recent match against Atalanta. He indicated that the team is working on movements off the ball and attacking spaces more effectively.

Addressing team availability, Sarri mentioned that Lazio has seven players currently unavailable, making significant squad rotation difficult. He described the situation as “normal,” rather than an emergency, but acknowledged the challenges of making too many changes to the starting lineup.

Regarding recent signing Ratkov, Sarri stated it was still too early to assess his performance, citing language and cultural differences as potential hurdles. He did, however, praise Ratkov’s professionalism and indicated they would continue to evaluate his progress in the coming months.

In a separate interview with DAZN, Sarri reiterated the importance of focusing on the present. “Our heads are today. If we play thinking about the next game, we are dead. We’ll think about that tomorrow,” he said.
