Cuban Builders Honored for Hurricane Melissa Recovery Efforts

Bayamo, Cuba – December 5, 2025 – Construction workers from the provinces of Granma, Las Tunas, and Villa Clara have been awarded the Labour Feat Medal by the council of State of the Republic of Cuba in recognition of their vital role in repairing damage caused by Hurricane Melissa.The awards were presented today in Bayamo during the national festivity of Builder’s Day.
Recognition of Construction Crews
The Labor Feat Medal was conferred upon teams from the following construction companies:
* Construction and Assembly Companies (ECM), Granma
* Construction of Engineering Works Number 25, Granma
* Contingente Leoncio vidal, Villa Clara
* Conalza, Las Tunas
These companies played a crucial role in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, working to restore infrastructure and homes impacted by the storm. Long-Service Awards and Collective Distinction
Along with the Labor Feat Medal, several individual workers were also honored for their dedication to the construction sector. Two workers from ECM and three from the Engineering and Design Services Company, both based in Granma, received the Armando Mestre Medal. This medal recognizes 20 years of service for women and 25 years for men in the construction industry.
Furthermore, the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba in Granma, along with the provincial governor, presented the National Outstanding Collective Distinction – awarded by the Secretariat of the National Union of Construction Workers – to the local Construction and Assembly and Engineering and Design Services companies.
