1/ Mites are insects
False. like spiders and scorpions, mites are arachnids and have eight legs. Around 50,000 species have been identified, but their diversity could be over a million. Most are invisible to the naked eye, averaging 0.7 millimeters, like Paratarsotomus macropalpis (the fastest animal in the world relative to its size). However, some species can grow up to 30 millimeters, like the chigger or tick. The pests that plague hikers and dogs are actually large mites!
2/ We find mites everywhere
