A relentless heat wave is gripping the Southwest, breaking records and pushing infrastructure to its limits. Cities from California to Texas are experiencing scorching temperatures, with forecasts predicting even more extreme heat in the coming days.

Phoenix, Arizona, is at the epicenter of the heat wave, enduring a record-breaking 19 consecutive days with temperatures exceeding 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The cityS cooling centers are overwhelmed, and hospitals are reporting a surge in heat-related illnesses.

Las Vegas is also facing dangerous conditions, with temperatures expected to reach 118 degrees Fahrenheit this weekend. The heat is straining the power grid, and officials are urging residents to conserve energy.

California is bracing for its own heat wave, with temperatures expected to climb into the triple digits in many parts of the state. The risk of wildfires is also high, as dry vegetation and strong winds create ideal conditions for flames to spread.

The extreme heat is a stark reminder of the impacts of climate change. Scientists say that heat waves are becoming more frequent and intense due to rising global temperatures.

here’s what you need to know:

* Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
* Seek shelter: Spend time in air-conditioned buildings or find a cooling center.
* Avoid strenuous activity: Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
* Check on vulnerable neighbors: make sure that elderly or disabled individuals are staying cool and hydrated.
* never leave children or pets in a parked car: Temperatures inside a vehicle can quickly rise to deadly levels.

The heat wave is expected to continue for at least another week, and residents are urged to take precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Trump Ends Trade Talks with Canada Over TV ad

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump said late Thursday that he was ending “all trade negotiations” with Canada becuase of a television ad opposing U.S. tariffs that he said misstated the facts and called “egregious behavior” aimed at influencing U.S. court decisions.

Trump Terminates Trade Negotiations with Canada Over ‘Fake’ Reagan Ad

WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump announced Thursday night that he is terminating all trade negotiations with Canada, alleging that a recent advertisement featuring Ronald Reagan was “fraudulent” and intended to influence legal decisions regarding tariffs. The move could further inflame trade tensions that already have been building between the two neighboring countries for months.

Trump posted on his social media site, “The Ronald Reagan Foundation has just announced that Canada has fraudulently used an advertisement, which is FAKE, featuring Ronald Reagan speaking negatively about Tariffs.”

“The ad was for $75,000. They onyl did this to interfere with the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court, and other courts,” Trump wrote. “TARIFFS ARE VERY CRUCIAL TO THE NATIONAL SECURITY, AND ECONOMY, OF THE U.S.A. Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED.”

canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Trudeau was set to leave Friday morning for a summit in Asia, while Trump is set to do the same Friday evening.

Earlier Thursday night, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute posted on X that an ad created by the government of Ontario “misrepresents the ‘Presidential Radio address to the Nation on Free and Fair Trade’ dated April 25,1987.” It added that Ontario did not receive foundation permission “to use and edit the remarks.”

The foundation said it is “reviewing legal options in this matter” and invited the public to watch the unedited video of Reagan’s address.

Trudeau met with Trump earlier this month to try to ease trade tensions,as the two countries and Mexico prepare for a review of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada agreement – a trade deal Trump negotiated in his frist term, but has sence soured on.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford Launches U.S. ad Campaign to Fight Trump Tariffs

“I saw an ad last night from Canada. If I was Canada, I’d take that same ad also,” he said then.

In his own post on X last week, Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario, posted a link to the ad and the message: “It’s official: Ontario’s new advertising campaign in the U.S. has launched.”

He continued, “Using every tool we have, we’ll never stop making the case against American tariffs on Canada. The way to prosperity is by working together.”

A spokesperson for Ford didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday night. But Ford previously got Trump’s attention with an electricity surcharge to U.S. states. Trump responded by doubling steel and aluminum tariffs.

The president has moved to impose steep U.S. tariffs on many goods from Canada. In April, Canada’s government imposed retaliatory levies on certain U.S. goods — but it carved out exemptions for some automakers to bring specific numbers of vehicles into the country, known as remission quotas.
