michigan Men’s Golf Finishes Third at Island Resort Intercollegiate

BARK RIVER, Mich. – The University of Michigan men’s golf team opened its season with a program-record 822 (-42) 54-hole total, finishing third at the Island Resort Intercollegiate on Monday (Sept.1). The team set 24 career and program records at Sage Run Golf Club.

After rounds of 281 (-7) and 274 (-14) on Sunday, Michigan was fourth at 555 (-21).A final-round 267 (-21) – tying the program record for lowest single-round team score and the best round of the day by six shots – propelled the Wolverines too third place.

All 12 teams in the field finished under par.West Virginia won the title with a remarkable 809 (-55), while Purdue was runner-up at 815 (-49).

Sophomore RJ Arone led the wolverines with a career-best 205 (-11), tying for eighth place. His final-round 65 (-7) was a new career low, fueled by 11 pars and 7 birdies. Sophomore Dean Muratore also carded a 65 (-7) with 8 pars, 7 birdies, and 1 eagle.

All five Michigan starters finished under par for the first time in program history. Freshman jordan Hwang earned his first career start and tied for 35th with a 213 (-3) total. all three U-M freshmen made their collegiate debuts.
