Met Area Well Represented at 125th U.S. Amateur Championship
ELMSFORD, N.Y. (August 10, 2025) – The 125th U.S. Amateur Championship heads to The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., August 11-17, and the Met area is well represented in the national championship. Stroke play qualifying will take place on both the Lake course and Ocean Course at The Olympic Club, with match play being contested on the Lake Course to determine the champion.

A number of Met Area players were exempt to the field,including Barnes Blake of Westfield,N.J., Adam Friedman of Westport, Conn., Dean Greyserman of Short Hills, N.J., Reed Greyserman of Short Hills, N.J., Stewart Hagestad of Newport beach, Calif.,and Luke Sample of New York,N.Y.
Four players earned their exemption by winning 2025 amateur championships: Blake – the 2023 MGA Junior Player of the Year – the new Jersey Amateur,Friedman the Connecticut Amateur,Dean Greyserman most recently with the Met Amateur at Old Oaks,and Reed Greyserman the Florida Amateur.
Simultaneously occurring, Sample – the 2020 MGA Junior Player of the Year behind wins in the Met Junior and Met Open – earned his place in the field as one of the top 100 age-eligible players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) as of late May. Hagestad, the 2016 MGA Player of the Year, entered the field through multiple exemption categories: as the 2023 U.S. Mid‑Amateur champion, having been a member of the 2023 U.S.Walker Cup team, and as a Top 100 WAGR age‑eligible points leader.
Final Met Area competitors did so through qualifying, with Tim Hegarty of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., Dean Muratore of Dix Hills, N.Y., and Colin Summers of Westfield, N.J.
