Emmanuel Popoola, 18, was sentenced to life imprisonment on July 11, 2025, at London’s Old Bailey for the murder of 18-year-old Keanu Harker. The killing, which occurred on June 26, 2025, in Enfield, followed a dispute between rival gangs that originated on Snapchat. Popoola and his accomplice, Tayvon Etefia, were apprehended following an international investigation.

The Circumstances of the Enfield Murder

According to the Metropolitan Police, Keanu Harker was riding a bicycle on Great Cambridge Road in Enfield when he was targeted by Emmanuel Popoola and Tayvon Etefia. The two assailants pursued the victim on a Sur-Ron electric motorcycle. Investigators determined that Popoola fired three shots at close range, striking Harker in the head and torso. Despite attempting to reach the safety of a nearby residential garden, Harker succumbed to his injuries.

The violence was linked to a dispute between two local gangs, identified as “3×3” and the “Get Money Gang.” Digital forensic analysis of the suspects’ mobile devices revealed that the conflict escalated following an online argument regarding Popoola’s inability to pay for a mobile data plan. Evidence presented during the six-week trial included drill rap videos in which members of the gang, including Popoola, appeared to celebrate the killing.

International Manhunt and Arrest

Following the shooting, Popoola fled to Paris via the Eurostar on a ticket purchased by his partner, Anais King. British authorities intercepted Etefia at St Pancras International station just minutes before he could board a train to join his accomplice.

First televised sentencing at the Old Bailey

Metropolitan Police investigators tracked the movements of King, who had traveled to France to meet Popoola. This surveillance led to a joint operation between British and French law enforcement, resulting in Popoola’s arrest in a Parisian apartment on August 3, 2025. He was extradited to the United Kingdom on August 14, 2025.

Judicial Outcomes and Sentencing

The Old Bailey proceedings concluded with multiple convictions related to the attack:

Judicial Outcomes and Sentencing

Contextualizing Violence in Enfield

The murder occurred in a borough that has otherwise seen a downward trend in violent crime. Official data from the Mayor of London’s office indicates that Enfield recorded 417 fewer incidents of violence resulting in injury over the 12 months preceding the trial, marking one of the largest reductions among London’s 32 boroughs. Currently, London’s homicide rate remains at its lowest point in a decade, statistically trailing behind major European capitals including Paris, Brussels, Berlin, and Madrid.
