Russian Drone Attack Targets SBU Directorate in Lviv, Disrupts Power in Volyn Region

A Russian-launched unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacked the Main Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the Lviv region on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, reported the attack and subsequent damage EADaily. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties.

Details of the Lviv Attack

According to Kozytskyi, the UAV, identified as a Shahed or “Geranium” drone, caused destruction at the SBU directorate. Authorities are currently searching for debris and have warned residents not to approach any fallen fragments due to the risk of explosion EADaily. The specific model of the drone and the full extent of the damage remain unknown as of March 19, 2026.

Volyn Region Also Targeted

In a separate incident on the evening of March 18, Shahed drones also attacked the Volyn region, according to the head of the region’s military administration, Roman Romanyuk. The attack resulted in damage to a critical infrastructure facility, causing a power outage affecting more than 30,000 people EADaily.

Novovolynsk Infrastructure Damage

The mayor of Novovolynsk, Boris Karpus, reported that the energy infrastructure facility sustained serious damage and a fire broke out. Energy workers are preparing to begin restoration function as soon as possible. Authorities have established four “indestructible points” – designated locations providing warmth and electricity access for residents.
