Ukraine to Maintain Current Electricity Tariffs Through April 2026, Energy Minister Confirms

Ukraine will maintain its current electricity tariff of UAH 4.32 per 1 kWh at least through April 30, 2026, according to First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Denys Shmyhal. This assurance comes as Ukraine navigates ongoing economic challenges amidst the conflict with Russia.

Tariff Stability Confirmed

During a meeting of the parliamentary committee on Energy and Housing Utilities, Shmyhal stated, “We do not plan to raise prices for the population in May. Period,” as reported by People’s Deputy Alexey Kucherenko. This statement aims to alleviate concerns about potential price increases for consumers.

Expert Analysis on Market Reform

Alexander Kharchenko, director of the Center for Energy Research, has previously suggested that raising tariffs in the current climate may not be beneficial. He emphasized the require for fundamental reform of Ukraine’s electricity market, citing existing debts and financial issues exacerbated by the ongoing war. Denys Shmyhal’s current role as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy follows a period as Prime Minister of Ukraine from 2020 to 2025.
