Latvia Marks Fourth Anniversary of War in Ukraine with Events Nationwide
On February 24th, 2026, Latvia will hold public events in Riga and cities across the country to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. These events aim to honor the memory of Ukrainian fighters, demonstrate solidarity with the Ukrainian people, and underscore the continued demand for support.
Events in Riga
- Moment of Silence: A nationwide moment of silence will be observed at 9:00 AM to honor those who have lost their lives fighting for Ukraine’s freedom.
- Photo Exhibition: “Witnesses of War – Destroyed Cultural Heritage”: An exhibition showcasing the destruction of Ukrainian historical and cultural monuments will open at 10:00 AM in the square near the Freedom Monument. The exhibition will run until March 22nd.
- Photo Exhibition: “The Everyday Reality of Freedom”: This exhibition, featuring operate by Ukrainian photographers, will open at 10:30 AM in Town Hall Square and will be on display until March 25th.
- Photo Exhibition: “Angels of Kharkiv Region”: Dedicated to children and civilian victims of war, this exhibition will open at 10:30 AM at the National Library of Latvia and will run until March 24th.
- Prayer for a Just Peace: A prayer service will be held at 5:00 PM at the Chapel at the Church of the Suffering Mother of God (5 Pils Street), organized by the UGCC Parish in Latvia.
- Symbolic Procession: “Path of Light for Ukraine”: A march in memory of the victims of war will take place from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM, starting at Dome Square and ending at the Freedom Monument, organized by the public organization Tavi draugi.
- Charity Concert: A charity concert will be held at the Latvian National Opera.
Events in Other Cities
- Daugavpils: A solidarity march will begin at 5:30 PM from the railway station to Vienibas Square, followed by speeches. A charity concert, “Support for Ukraine,” will be held at 4:30 PM at the Unity House. A screening of the film “2000 Meters to Andriyivka” is scheduled for February 26th at 7:00 PM in the New East space.
- Ventspils: A charity event, “Songs of Strength for Ukraine,” will be held at 7:00 PM at the Popes House of Culture, featuring performances by choirs and musicians, and a collection of donations for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
- Jelgava: A charity event featuring the theatrical performance “Tetris” will be held at 12:00 PM at the House of Culture of Auce.
- Liepāja: Performances of the anthems of Ukraine and Latvia, along with a prayer for peace, will be held at 12:00 PM at the Holy Trinity Cathedral. From 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM, donations will be collected, camouflage nets woven, badges made, and drone control simulator training offered at the Latvian Society Building. A charity concert of Latvian and Ukrainian music will take place at 7:00 PM.
- Valmiera: A community meeting will be held at 5:30 PM on the territory of the Valmiera Museum, featuring a video message from the military, a charity fair, and an installation of the Coat of Arms of Ukraine made of candles.
- Rēzekne: A Holy Mass and laying of flowers and candles will take place at 3:00 PM at the Monument to the Liberation of Latgale “United for Latvia.” Master classes on weaving camouflage nets and collecting donations for the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Cultural Center of National Communities.
- Preili: A screening of the film “2000 Metres to Andriyivka” will be held on February 25th. An exhibition in Aglona as part of the Ukraine Support Week will be held on February 26th.
- Alūksne: A rally in support of Ukrainians will be held at 4:00 PM in Struklaka Park. Participants are encouraged to bring candles and symbols of Ukraine and Latvia.
