Air Raid Alerts Sound Across Ukraine as Drone and Missile Threats Intensify

On the night of February 26, 2026, air raid alerts were activated in Kyiv and several regions of Ukraine due to the reported threat of Russian attack drones and ballistic missiles. Explosions were reported in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia, prompting widespread alarms throughout the country.

Initial Reports and Warnings

The Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA) initially announced the air raid alert in the capital city due to the threat of enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Residents were urged to immediately seek shelter and remain there until the all-clear was given.

Reports from Kharkiv indicated two explosions resulting from enemy suicide drones, with a warning that combat drones remained active in the city. Ihor Terekhov, the Mayor of Kharkiv, cautioned residents to exercise caution.

Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, reported that the city was under attack by UAVs and ballistic missiles, with air defense systems actively engaged. He as well advised residents to stay in shelters.

Escalation of Threats

Air defense systems were reported to be operating in Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia. Later updates indicated a nationwide air raid alert due to the threat of missiles. The Air Force of Ukraine reported the emergence of cruise missiles in Ukrainian airspace.

Despite a brief lifting of the alert in some areas, Kyiv and the surrounding region were placed back under air raid warning. Further reports indicated missile launches from the Bryansk region of Russia towards the Chernihiv region of Ukraine.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine specified the threat as being related to launches of X-22 missiles from the north.
