Drone Strikes Apartment Complex in Belgorod, Russia, Injuring One

A Ukrainian drone crashed into an apartment complex in Belgorod, Russia, injuring at least one person, according to regional authorities. The incident occurred Tuesday, marking the latest cross-border attack in the region.

Details of the Attack

Belgorod region governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that emergency workers rescued a man from the fifth floor of the apartment complex. While suffering from smoke inhalation, the injured individual declined hospitalization. Gladkov stated that the fire caused by the drone crash was extinguished, resulting in damage to the facades and windows of ten apartments. Seven vehicles were also damaged in the attack.

Drone Crash Site Identified

Telegram news channels, citing anonymous law enforcement sources, identified the apartment complex targeted as Novaya Zhizn, located on the west side of Belgorod. Baza, a Telegram channel with alleged connections to Russian security services, published a video purportedly showing the moment of impact. The video captures the sound of a drone followed by an explosion and a fireball.

The Moscow Times geolocated photos of the drone crash site published by Gladkov, confirming the location as Novaya Zhizn. These photos were cross-referenced with publicly available images from the Russian search engine Yandex.

Belgorod Under Fire

Belgorod, situated south of the Kursk region, has been frequently targeted since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began. Notably, Ukrainian troops launched a surprise cross-border incursion in early August in the Kursk region.
