USC to Conceal Classroom Locations Publicly, Citing Safety Concerns

The University of Southern California (USC) is implementing a significant change to its public Schedule of Classes, removing all publicly visible classroom locations starting next week. This decision, initiated by a request from the USC Safety and risk Assurance Office, aims to enhance the protection of instructional staff, according to an email declaration from University Registrar Frank Chang.

The move follows a similar action taken last fall, where USC concealed the physical locations of gender and Sexuality courses due to safety concerns stemming from previous incidents. University officials maintain a commitment to regularly reviewing and updating security protocols based on best practices.

Currently, anyone can view classroom locations through the public Schedule of Classes.Though, after the update, access to this information will be restricted to individuals with an active USC NetID, requiring login via Single Sign-On (SSO). Students will continue to access complete class details through the Web Registration system and the Experience USC portal.

While the university anticipates minimal disruption from this system update, Registrar Chang acknowledges potential challenges for new faculty and staff who may initially find locating classrooms more difficult. The update may also briefly impact Spring 2026 registration processes.

USC has not publicly detailed the specific safety concerns driving this broader change, leaving many within the university community to seek further clarification. The university statement to Annenberg Media simply affirmed thier dedication to safety and security enhancements.
