Wabash College Sends Seven Athletes to NCAA Championships

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Seven Wabash College student-athletes will compete in upcoming NCAA Division III championship events, concluding the winter sports season over the next two weeks. Three Little Giant wrestlers will participate in the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, starting Friday. Three members of the Wabash track and field team will compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, beginning Friday. Wabash will send one swimmer to the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, scheduled for March 18–21 in Indianapolis.

Wrestling Championships

Senior James Day will compete in the national wrestling championships for the fourth time. The two-time All-American finished third at 125 pounds in 2024 and fourth at 133 pounds last year. Day is the No. 3 seed at 133 pounds this year after winning the NCAA Division III Region V title. He will face the winner of a preliminary-round match between Chase Creque of Baldwin Wallace University and Wyatt Unser of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Senior Jaylen Young earned his first trip to the national tournament after capturing the Region V championship at 174 pounds. Young will open competition against Jack Hoffman of Ohio Northern University, with the winner advancing to face third-seeded Dustin Bohren of Loras College.

Junior Titus Waters returns to the national tournament after winning the Region V title at 285 pounds for the second consecutive year. Waters is the No. 6 seed and will face 11th-seeded Andrew Vanscoy of Baldwin Wallace in the opening round. Waters previously defeated Vanscoy earlier this season, pinning him in the Tom Jarman Spartan Mat Classic in January.

The wrestling championships begin Friday at 10 a.m. Central Time, with the top eight finishers in each weight class advancing to the second day. Saturday’s semifinal and consolation rounds start at 10 a.m. CT, and the championship finals are scheduled for 7 p.m.

Track and Field Championships

Three Wabash athletes will compete at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham. Seniors Quinn Sholar and Sly Williams, and freshman Brock DeBello have qualified for the national meet.

Sholar, the 2026 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, qualified in both the shot put and weight throw after setting school records in each event. His weight throw of 18.69 meters won the NCAC title and ranks among the top marks in Division III. Sholar also broke the Wabash shot put record with a toss of 17.47 meters at the DePauw Invitational.

Sholar will compete in the weight throw Friday at 11 a.m. Eastern Time. The top nine throwers advance to the finals, with the top eight earning First Team All-America honors and those finishing ninth through 16th earning Second Team All-America recognition. Sholar will also compete in the shot put Saturday at noon.

Williams qualified after breaking the Wabash indoor triple jump record with a leap of 14.72 meters at the NCAC Championships, where he finished second. He previously broke the school’s indoor long jump record earlier in the year. Williams will compete in the triple jump Saturday at noon, with the top nine competitors advancing to the finals.

DeBello set a school record in the Wabash indoor 400-meter dash with a time of 47.47 seconds at the NCAC Championships. He will run in the preliminary heats of the 400 meters Friday at 4:25 p.m., with the eight fastest times advancing to Saturday’s championship final.

Swimming and Diving Championships

Sophomore Ryan West will represent Wabash at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. He will be the first Little Giant swimmer to compete at the national championships since 2016.

West qualified after winning the 200-yard breaststroke at the NCAC Championships, breaking his own school record with a time of 1:46.42. He is seeded 11th and will compete in preliminary trials Saturday, March 21, at 10 a.m., with the top 16 swimmers advancing to the evening finals.

West will also compete in the 200-yard individual medley on Wednesday, March 18. The event is the fourth race of the morning trials session, beginning at 10 a.m. He is seeded 34th with a school-record time of 1:50.87 set at the conference championships.

West is also scheduled to swim in the preliminary heats of the 100-yard backstroke Friday, March 20, at 10 a.m. He enters the event seeded 31st with a time of 49.27.
