Golden State Warriors guard Moses Moody is staying put. The promising young player has agreed to a three-year, $39 million rookie contract extension, according to ESPN.
CEO of Klutch Sports, Rich Paul, confirmed the deal on Sunday night. Moody, entering the final year of his initial rookie contract, has emerged as a valuable asset for the Warriors.
Moody’s Rise Through the Ranks
Moody, drafted 14th overall in 2021, has steadily developed into a reliable rotation player under coach Steve Kerr. His performance during training camp and preseason has solidified his position as a key contributor for the upcoming season.
Last season, Moody averaged eight points and 3.5 rebounds in 17.5 minutes across 66 games. He showcased significant improvement, setting career highs in scoring, playing time, rebounds, steals, and blocks.
Kerr emphasized Moody’s progress, particularly his shooting. After encouraging Moody to become a more aggressive shooter, especially on catch-and-shoot opportunities, the guard responded in preseason, averaging 15.5 points in 20 minutes. His shooting percentages soared to 45.6% from the floor and 39.4% from beyond the arc.
Kerr’s Praise for Moody
“He’s playing great. He’s gotten so much better in so many ways. We’ve always loved his character, his work ethic. This is the most confidence he’s played with,” Kerr stated, highlighting Moody’s impressive training camp performance.
While Kerr acknowledges Moody’s significant role, he also recognizes the depth of talent on the Warriors roster.
“But so are a lot of other guys. We’re sitting in that coaches room every day saying: ‘How are we going to play all these guys?’ Because they all deserve to play. I’ve asked all of them to play their hardest, make it difficult for us.”
Moody’s extension signifies his growing importance to the Warriors’ future. His continued development and contributions will be crucial as the team aims for championship contention.
