Kerala Athletes Shine at National Games, Marking a New Era

Kerala is celebrating a triumphant showing at the National Games, with athletes across multiple disciplines claiming medals and grabbing national attention. From the soaring heights of gymnastics to the powerful stride of the track and field team, Kerala’s sporting spirit is on full display.

This year, gymnastics has emerged as a particularly bright spot for the state. Masters’s student Harikrishnan, a rising star in the sport, captivated the audience by securing a gold medal in the Apparatus finals – his first senior national victory. His victory marks a pivotal moment for Kerala in gymnastics, signaling a bright future for the sport in the state.

“It feels incredible!,” expressed Harikrishnan, beaming with pride. "It’s been a dream of mine to compete at this level and to win a gold medal. The hard work and dedication haven’t been easy, but it was all worth it.”

Beyond gymnastics, Kerala’s track and field team showcased commendable performance across several events. Harikrishnan snagged a fifth-place finish in the men’s 100-meter sprint, while Dilna Philip demonstrated her speed with a seventh-place finish in the women’s 100-meter race. Ichel P secured a sixth-place finish in the women’s high jump, further proving the state’s versatility in athletics.

Adding to the state’s medal tally, Inswathi PR’s silver medal in the women’s 78kg Wuushu event is a testament to her dedication and training. Her passionate performance, coupled with the inspiring involvement of her family in the sport, underlines the strong foundations of Kerala’s sporting culture.

Inswathi, a national-level Judo athlete, trains alongside her husband Ashwin, a fellow competitor.

“It’s absolutely supportive,” Inswathi shared. “We push each other in training, and we understand the dedication it takes to succeed at this level. It’s great to have someone who knows exactly what I’m going through.”

Their daughter, Pure, is also following in their footsteps, training with the Kerala police team.

"It’s a gorgeous thing! It’s truly a family affair. Pure is incredibly talented and dedicated. It’s inspiring to see her follow in our footsteps,” Inswathi remarked.

These achievements, these stories of dedication, hard work, and familial support, highlight the enriched sporting landscape of Kerala. With a strong focus on grassroots development and a vibrant community of athletes, Kerala is poised to become a major force in Indian sports in the years to come.
