Novel Witcher 3 DLC to Bridge Gap to Witcher 4, Focusing on Existing Regions
Rumors are circulating about a new Witcher 3 DLC planned to release this year, designed to connect the narrative between The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the upcoming Witcher 4. While earlier speculation suggested a potential expansion to the distant Zerrikania region, recent reports indicate the DLC will primarily utilize and expand upon existing locations within the game, particularly in the northern kingdoms.
Expanding Familiar Territories
CD Projekt Red has not officially confirmed the DLC, but insider information points towards a focus on bridging the story gap. Given that Witcher 3 is largely set in Temeria, Redania, and Skellige, and Witcher 4 is confirmed to take place at least partially in Kovir and Poviss, it logically follows that the DLC would remain within the established northern territories. TweakTown reports that the DLC will be “expanding on already existing areas and reusing assets.”
Asset Reuse and Map Completion
Polish insider UV o grach, a former journalist with connections within the Polish gaming industry, corroborated this information in a recent livestream. The insider indicated that assets from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are being reused, with the goal of filling in narrative gaps on the map between the two games. This suggests the DLC won’t introduce a completely new region, such as Zerrikania, but will instead enhance and extend areas players are already familiar with.
Temeria and Redania as Potential Locations
As Witcher 3 is set around Temeria and Redania, these kingdoms are likely candidates for expansion within the DLC. Temeria, located south of the Pontar river, borders Redania, Kerack, Kaedwen, Aedirn, Mahakam, Lower Sodden, and Cidaris. The DLC could potentially explore these bordering regions further, enriching the existing world and providing a smoother transition to the setting of Witcher 4.
The Witcher Remake and Lore Consistency
The upcoming remake of the original Witcher game will also address inconsistencies in the lore, particularly regarding the Wild Hunt. Lead story designer Artur Ganszyniec revealed that the development team initially didn’t realize the Wild Hunt were elves, a detail established in Witcher 3. TechRadar reports that this aspect will be revised in the remake to maintain consistency with the established lore.
Official confirmation from CD Projekt Red regarding the DLC is still pending, and all information should be treated with caution until an official announcement is made.
