Bears Fall to southeast Missouri State in five Sets
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Missouri State Bears volleyball team (11-8, 4-3 MVC) suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Southeast Missouri State (12-7, 5-2 MVC) on Wednesday evening at the Show Me Centre. The match saw several lead changes and intense rallies, ultimately ending with the Redhawks securing the final set 15-13.
The Bears started strong, winning the first set 25-20, showcasing a powerful offensive performance led by senior outside hitter Brylee Bunn. However, SEMO responded in the second set, taking it 25-22 with a strong showing at the net. Missouri State regained the lead in the third set, winning 25-23, but the Redhawks forced a fifth set with a 25-21 victory in the fourth.
In the decisive fifth set,both teams battled fiercely,trading points untill SEMO gained a slight advantage and closed out the match.
Bunn led the Bears with 18 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Azyah Buhler added 11 kills and four blocks. Senior setter Chloe Henderson dished out 45 assists, and junior libero Kate Navin recorded 22 digs.
“It was a tough battle tonight,” said head coach Steven holt. “We had moments where we played really well,but we weren’t consistent enough to close it out. SEMO is a good team, and they capitalized on our errors.”
The Bears will look to bounce back on Friday, october 10th, as they travel to Jacksonville State for a 6:00 p.m. matchup. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
