michigan swimming & Diving: Academic Excellence Recognized Nationally
The dedication of student-athletes extends far beyond the pool, and the University of Michigan’s swimming and diving programs recently demonstrated this commitment with a remarkable showing in academic accolades. The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its Scholar All-America selections for the 2024-25 season, recognizing 31 Wolverines for their outstanding performance in the classroom. Along with individual honors, both the men’s and women’s teams were awarded the prestigious CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award, signifying a collective commitment to academic achievement.
Women’s Team: A Legacy of Scholarship
The University of Michigan women’s swimming and diving team showcased exceptional academic prowess this season. Nine athletes earned frist-team Scholar All-America recognition: Stephanie Balduccini, Casey Chung, Rebecca Diaconescu, Lexi Greenhawt, Brady Kendall, Kiarra Milligan, Claire Newman, Marian Ploger, and Letitia Sim. This distinction is awarded to swimmers and divers who maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher and achieve qualifying times at NCAA Championship meets.
An additional eight Wolverines – Anna boemer, Chrismon Clark, Josie Connelly, Evie Johnson, Natalie Kan, Alex Mercier, Ella Jo Piersma, and Madison smith – were honored with second-team (Honorable Mention) status. This broad representation highlights the program’s consistent emphasis on balancing athletic competition with rigorous academic pursuits. Considering that onyl approximately 7% of all collegiate athletes achieve this level of academic recognition, the Wolverines’ performance is especially noteworthy.
Men’s Team: Setting the Standard for Student-Athlete Success
The Michigan men’s swimming and diving team mirrored the women’s success, demonstrating a strong commitment to academic excellence. Four athletes – Eitan Ben-Shitrit, Colin Geer, Tyler Ray, and Jack Wilkening – achieved first-team Scholar All-America honors. These individuals not only excelled in the pool, contributing to the team’s competitive success, but also maintained exemplary academic records.Furthermore, eleven additional team members were recognized with second-team honors: Grayson Davis, Inbar Danziger, Jaeddan Gamilla, Rian Herrmann, Jon Jøntvedt, kameron Liberman, Cameron Luarde, William savarese, ethan Schwab, and Jacque Wenger. This considerable representation underscores the program’s holistic approach to athlete development, fostering an habitat where academic achievement is valued alongside athletic performance.
CSCAA Recognition: A Mark of Program Excellence
The CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award, received by both the men’s and women’s programs, is a testament to the dedication of the coaching staff and the commitment of the student-athletes.
