Justin Thomas Returns to Competitive Golf at TGL After Back Surgery

Justin Thomas is set to develop his return to competitive golf at the TGL event on Monday, February 23rd, marking his first appearance since undergoing microdiscectomy surgery in November. The announcement was made by Thomas on social media, responding to a video from Luke Bryan according to PGA Tour reports.

Recovery and Preparation

Thomas, 32, had been sidelined since the Ryder Cup in September due to nagging hip pain caused by a disc issue. He underwent surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and has been diligently working through rehabilitation, sharing updates on his progress through social media. He was fully cleared for golf activity a week ago, posting a video of himself hitting drives on the range.

TGL Schedule and Previous Performance

Thomas will compete for Atlanta Drive in a TGL doubleheader on Monday, February 23rd. Atlanta Drive will face Boston Common Golf at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN and Los Angeles Golf Club at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Thomas previously led Atlanta Drive to the inaugural TGL championship, winning the first SoFi Cup.

PGA TOUR Return

Even as Thomas is returning to competition at the TGL, he had previously indicated his intention to make his PGA TOUR debut during the Florida Swing. In January, he stated, “I’m looking to come back competitively at some point during the Florida swing. I know how essential it is to get this injury behind me so that I’m only looking forward over the course of the season.” as reported by the PGA Tour.

2024 Season Highlights

Last year, Thomas finished seventh in the FedExCup standings, highlighted by a victory at the RBC Heritage, his first win since the 2022 PGA Championship.
