Today’s Wordle Etymology:

the word “ratty” originates from the word rat combined with the adjective suffix -y*. It first appeared in the early 19th century, initially meaning “infested with rats” or “resembling a rat.” Over time, it evolved to carry figurative meanings like “shabby, mean, or contemptible” in the mid-1800s, influenced by the negative connotations associated with rats. In the 20th century, it also came to describe someone as “bad-tempered or irritable.”
