Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Launches on Switch 2 with Performance Boost

Nintendo has simultaneously announced and released Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for the Switch 2, offering existing Switch owners an upgrade path for $4.99. IGN first reported the news on February 19, 2026.

Enhanced Performance and Resolution

The Switch 2 version of the game boasts significant visual improvements, supporting up to 4K resolution at 60 frames per second in TV mode, and 1080p at 60fps when played in handheld mode. TechRadar notes that these enhancements primarily focus on visual polish, with the core gameplay experience remaining largely unchanged.

Availability and Pricing

Digital copies of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Switch 2 Edition are available for purchase now on the Nintendo eShop. Nintendo also plans a physical release, scheduled for April 16, 2026.

About Xenoblade Chronicles X

Originally released for the Wii U in 2015, Xenoblade Chronicles X is a sprawling sci-fi RPG set on the alien planet Mira. The game places players in the role of a customizable protagonist who is part of a human colony ship that crash-lands on the mysterious planet after Earth’s destruction. GameSpot highlights the game’s seamless open world, emphasis on side quests, and the ability to pilot a giant mech for aerial exploration.

Combat and Gameplay

The game features a unique hybrid real-time combat system, often compared to MMOs, which may require some adjustment for fresh players. However, this system is a defining characteristic of the Xenoblade Chronicles series. Xenoblade Chronicles X is a standalone experience, meaning prior knowledge of other games in the series is not required.

Future Updates for the Series

Although Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition has received a Switch 2 update, other titles in the series – Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – have not yet received similar treatment. Nintendo has not yet announced plans for updates to these titles.
