What Xiaomi’s latest car has achieved is unprecedented. On June 26th,it saw over 200,000 Chinese citizens reserve the Xiaomi Yu7,its new electric SUV that directly competes wiht the Tesla Model Y,in just over an hour. the number of orders reached 289,000 in just 18 hours, a demand that set an absolute record in the industry.Currently, while the company isn’t overwhelmed with success, it does face a important problem.

In July, the first units of the Xiaomi Yu7 began delivery, totaling 6,024 new registrations in China and placing it as the number one seller. August figures aren’t yet available, but the disparity between 290,000 reservations and 6,000 deliveries hints at a major issue for Xiaomi’s car.

The company is facing overwhelming demand coupled with limited production capacity. This isn’t surprising; when reservations opened, the firm already warned that delivery times would be between 12 and 14 months.

Currently, those figures remain consistent: Xiaomi has confirmed that, depending on the model, the wait to receive the vehicle is between 53 and 62 weeks. This isn’t encouraging data, as it suggests production isn’t increasing since the last declaration.
