Zuri Alfred, a bronze medalist at the Leon Paul U14 Open in London, is taking a break from competitive fencing to develop technology and business projects aimed at making the sport more accessible, Antigua News reported on November 7, 2026.
The young épée fencer has partnered with fellow fencing entrepreneur and mentor Hannah LeBor on several initiatives, including a prototype device designed to gamify fencing and an educational platform for beginners.
Prototype Device Aims to Gamify Fencing
Alfred and LeBor are developing a device that could make fencing more interactive and portable, though the technology remains under development and has not yet been released.
“We made this so we can make fencing more portable for everyone that enjoys the sport,” Alfred said.
Alfred also sees algorithms playing a central role in the sport’s future. “Algorithms are the future, and to be part of the future we have gamified fencing so that the algorithm does the mechanics for you,” she said.
Educational Platform Targets Beginner Questions
The pair launched an educational platform this week with instructional videos covering equipment and protective gear, aspects of the sport that can intimidate newcomers.
“As a newcomer it’s easy to be intimidated by fencing because fencing is complex,” Alfred said, explaining that the platform aims to answer common questions about gear.
Alfred Expands into Acne Care and Fashion
Alfred’s entrepreneurial interests extend beyond sports. She and LeBor invested in Osquo, an emerging beauty and adult acne-care brand preparing for launch.
“As a young girl, I’ve had acne on my face so I know how self conscious it makes girls feel so investing in this is a huge confidence boost and as a young entrepreneur I think one should be passionate about what they put their money into,” Alfred said.
Alfred is also developing LyricV, a clothing brand inspired by fencing and music, alongside LyricFencing.com.
