Youssef Zghoudi Doubles Up as RS Berkane Conquer Stellenbosch FC

Winger Youssef Zghoudi was on fire, scoring two headers in a 15-minute span to propel Moroccan side RS Berkane to a 3-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC in a TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup Group B clash in Durban on Sunday.

This marked Zghoudi’s first brace since June, showcasing a potent return to form for the Moroccan attacker.

Berkane grabbed an early lead against the debutants in African club competition, significantly easing the pressure of this away encounter. Zghoudi’s impressive performance, characterized by two majestic headed goals, highlighted his growing influence on the field.

The club will be eager to see if Zghoudi can maintain this momentum in the Botola Pro, where he’s yet to find the back of the net in 10 appearances (four starts) this campaign.

Zghoudi has been a key figure for Berkane since joining the first team in the 2019/20 season. Last season, he contributed three goals and two assists, playing a crucial role in their run to the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup final, where they narrowly lost to Zamalek on away goals.

Despite facing setbacks, he remained a consistent presence in Berkane’s squad, featuring in all their group stage matches and the second leg of their quarter-final against Abu Salim Club, before returning for the second leg of the final in Cairo.

This season, Zghoudi has been a constant force in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, featuring in every game and finally breaking his goal drought with two goals against Stellenbosch FC. This brace marks a significant milestone in his career, achieving the feat for the first time in a major competition.
