Rosengartenstrasse in Zurich to Get Safety Upgrades

  • Rosengartenstrasse in Zurich is scheduled to be rebuilt in 2026.
  • New traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, as well as wider bicycle lanes, are planned.
  • The project will cost 3.5 million francs.
  • The local council has approved the renovation.

Rosengartenstrasse, running from Wipkingerplatz past the Prime Tower to Bucheggplatz, is one of Zurich’s busiest streets, with over 50,000 vehicles traveling on it daily. It’s been a topic of debate for years – from discussions about a 30 km/h speed limit to previous large-scale projects that didn’t work out.

Now, changes are coming. The city plans to make improvements in 2026 to make the street safer, especially for people walking and biking.

Rosengartenstrasse will be partially rebuilt in 2026: two pedestrian crossings with light signals and a traffic light for bus traffic will be added.20min/Taddeo Cerletti
