Aubagne is set to address the critical issue of youth addiction at the 11th edition of the Assises de la santé, taking place on Thursday, February 5th at the Espace des Libertés from 7 p.m. The event will highlight the ongoing efforts of the young Health and Sport Addiction project (Jass), a pioneering initiative aimed at preventing addictive behaviors in young people.
Recent statistics reveal a concerning trend: 9% of young people have experienced intoxication,69% consume sugary drinks daily, and 27% have already experimented with alcohol. Céline Succi, coordinator of the Jass project at the Valvert hospital center in Marseille, emphasizes the urgency of addressing these issues.
The Jass program, hosted by the City of Aubagne, is grounded in a thorough approach that targets the social factors contributing to addiction. Research conducted with third-year students at Lou Garlaban middle school informs the program’s action plan, focusing on four key areas: family dynamics, school environment, peer relationships, and leisure activities.
This local initiative draws inspiration from the triumphant icelandic planet Youth model, which has demonstrated significant reductions in addiction rates.By addressing the root causes of addictive behaviors, Aubagne aims to empower young people to make healthier choices and build a stronger, more resilient community.
The Assises de la santé will provide a platform to present the continued development and impact of the Jass program, furthering the conversation around youth addiction prevention and fostering collaborative solutions.
