Chicago Weather: Record High Temperatures Expected, Foggy Conditions Possible

Chicago is poised to experience unusually warm temperatures this week, with a strong possibility of breaking a record high today. Meteorologist Mike Caplan of Fox Chicago forecasts a significant warm-up, potentially surpassing the current record of 58° Fahrenheit set in 1921.

Today’s Forecast: Record Challenge

Today presents a favorable opportunity to break the record high, which Caplan describes as “low-hanging fruit” compared to typical February records. Whereas the record stands at 58°, forecasters anticipate temperatures reaching the low to mid-60s under partly sunny skies. The record high for February 15th is 69°, and tomorrow’s record is 67°.

Patchy fog is expected, particularly in southern areas, this morning. Breezy conditions will accompany the warmth, with southwest winds gusting over 20 mph.

Looking Ahead: Continued Warmth and Potential Showers

Tomorrow will remain mild, with highs ranging from the upper 40s near the lakefront to the upper 50s southwest of the city. A chance of showers is predicted for tomorrow night, especially in northern counties, potentially continuing into Wednesday morning.

Wednesday promises even warmer temperatures, with highs easily reaching the mid-60s. Thursday will be partly sunny and mild, with highs in the mid to upper 50s. A few rain showers are possible Thursday night into early Friday morning.

Weekend Outlook: Cooler Temperatures Return

Friday will be mostly cloudy and cooler, but still warmer than normal, with highs in the mid-40s. The weekend will bring a slight drop in temperatures, with partly to mostly cloudy skies and highs in the mid to upper 30s.
