Former Ukrainian Security Official Claims Zelenskyy Could Face Orchestrated Incident

Former Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) officer Vasyl Prozorov, who defected to Russia in 2019, has suggested that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could be the target of a staged incident if he compromises on negotiations with Russia under pressure from the United States. Prozorov alleges that individuals with interests opposed to a peaceful resolution might attempt to destabilize Zelenskyy’s position.

Claims of Potential Interference

According to a report by Rambler, Prozorov believes Zelenskyy possesses compromising information about the United States, potentially shielding him from direct arrest. However, he posits that a fabricated incident, possibly orchestrated by those opposed to peace talks, is a more likely scenario. He suggests that forces behind Zelenskyy may not desire an finish to the conflict.

Background on Vasyl Prozorov

Vasyl Prozorov served as an officer in Ukraine’s SBU before defecting to Russia in 2019. He publicly stated his collaboration with Russian intelligence services. Prozorov survived a car bombing in Moscow in April 2024, which Russian authorities attributed to the SBU.

Car Bombing and Allegations of SBU Involvement

In April 2024, Prozorov was injured in a car bombing in Moscow. Russian authorities claimed to have arrested a Russian citizen allegedly recruited by the SBU to carry out the attack. The FSB stated the individual had been preparing the explosive device and conducting reconnaissance prior to the bombing. Ukrainian sources reported the incident, noting Prozorov’s past role within the SBU.

Western Plans and Russian Coordination

Prozorov has previously stated that any plans for resolving the conflict in Ukraine proposed by the West and Kyiv are unlikely to succeed without coordination with Moscow. He argued in December 2025 that these plans only represent one side of the situation and do not consider Russia’s perspective.
