UT Dallas Men’s Basketball Concludes First LSC Season with Victory Over Oklahoma Christian

EDMOND, Okla. – The UT Dallas men’s basketball team finished its inaugural season in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) with an 84-82 victory over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, February 29, 2026, at the Eagles’ Nest.

The Comets concluded the season with an overall record of 8-20 and a 7-13 mark in LSC play, tying for 11th place in the conference standings Lone Star Conference Men’s Basketball Standings.

First-Half Dominance Sets the Tone

UT Dallas showcased strong shooting in the first half, connecting on 50 percent (17-of-34) of its field goal attempts, including 8-of-16 from beyond the arc, to establish a 46-35 lead at halftime.

Second-Half Rally and Close Finish

The Comets extended their advantage to 19 points early in the second period with a 19-11 run. However, Oklahoma Christian responded with a 27-9 rally over the next eight minutes, narrowing the deficit to 74-73. A late push by the Eagles saw them take a brief lead, 82-81, with 47 seconds remaining.

UT Dallas regained the lead on a tip-in basket by junior forward Zach Spitzer. A subsequent turnover by Oklahoma Christian allowed Peyton Dulin to convert a free throw, extending the Comets’ lead to 84-82. Oklahoma Christian’s final shot attempt was unsuccessful as time expired.

Key Performances for the Comets

Several Comets players contributed to the victory:

  • Guard Matthew Soto led the team with 18 points, shooting 5-for-12 from three-point range, and dished out six assists.
  • Junior forward Jordan Balderaz added 14 points off the bench, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.
  • Freshman center Hudson Goellner recorded 13 points and eight rebounds.
  • Freshman guard Will Warren also contributed 13 points.
  • Spitzer finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
  • Dulin posted four points, five rebounds, five assists, one block, and three steals.

Oklahoma Christian Leaders

Jason Clark led all players with 22 points and seven rebounds for Oklahoma Christian. Miles Gibson added a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Eliajh Bailey scored 11 points and recorded three steals, even as Carson Jones contributed 11 points off the bench.

Comets in the Record Book

This year’s Comets team achieved notable program records:

  • Ranked third in program history with 253 three-pointers made and first with 789 attempts.
  • Third with 361 offensive rebounds.
  • Fifth with a 1.24 assist/turnover ratio.
  • Second with 106 blocked shots.

Individually, Peyton Dulin ranked ninth in Comet history with 127 assists and 4.54 assists per contest this season, and was tied for eighth with 53 steals. Matthew Soto was fourth with a 2.82 assist/turnover ratio, and Zach Spitzer recorded the 10th-most blocked shots with 29.

The game marked the final collegiate contest for Comets seniors Soto and Everett Bates.
