Bills Acquire DJ Moore from Bears in Trade, Creating Cap Space for Chicago

The Buffalo Bills have agreed to trade for Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore, according to reports from ESPN and NFL Network on March 5, 2026. In exchange, the Bears will receive a 2026 second-round draft pick (60th overall) and send a 2026 fifth-round selection to Buffalo. ESPN and NFL.com confirmed the deal.

Bears Gain Financial Flexibility

The trade creates $16.5 million in cap space for the Bears, according to ESPN. This comes on top of approximately $10 million in cap relief from the recent retirement of center Drew Dalman. Chicago will have roughly $18.1 million in cap space after Dalman’s retirement is official, and an additional $15 million will turn into available after Tremaine Edmunds’ contract is offloaded. The Bears also have the flexibility to restructure contracts to create further cap room.

Moore’s Contract Details

The Bills will be guaranteeing $15.5 million of Moore’s $23.5 million base salary in 2028, as reported by agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Moore’s $23.5 million base salary in 2026 is fully guaranteed, and his 2027 base salary of the same amount becomes fully guaranteed next week.

Familiar Territory for Moore

Moore, who turns 29 on April 14, will reunite with new Bills head coach Joe Brady. He previously played under Brady when Brady was the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers in 2020 and for most of the 2021 season. ESPN noted that Moore had his most productive stretch under Brady, including 1,193 yards and a career-high 18.1 yards per catch in 2020.

Trade Cannot Be Finalized Immediately

The trade cannot be officially processed until the new league year begins next Wednesday.
